watched a remake before the original, but it has happened on a number of occasions. Like KING KONG (1976), INVADERS FROM MARS (1986) and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1999).

It's the same reason I sometimes see a movie before reading a book. It's easier to watch a movie first and decide if you'll like the book enough to devote the time to it, and it's easier sometimes to watch an English-language remake of a movie first before you dive into the foreign subtitled one.
Considering most remakes of Asian horror movies are godawful I don't think it makes sense to decide if you're gonna watch the originals or not based on how much you liked the remakes.

I saw the 1982 remake of "Cat People" before the original (Nastassia Kinski running around naked half the movie might have had something to do with that). I also have seen the American/English-language remakes of a lot of foreign movies before the original, like "The Ring" and "Mirrors". It's the same reason I sometimes see a movie before reading a book. Well that's subjective, I find that many times the movie you prefer is the one you watch first and not necessarily the movie that came first.
