I'm a fan of AIDS-themed films. Longtime Companion and And the Band Played On were amazing films, I thought. I've seen Band quite a few times.
I just watched the TV movie "Our Sons" the other night, which starred Julie Andrews and Ann-Margret as the mothers of gay sons, one of whom is dying of AIDS. It was a very well-acted film from the early 90s. Ann-Margret was the narrow-minded, small-town homophobic mother and Andrews was the more affluent of the two women and the more open-minded and accepting of the two.
I really enjoyed the film. Has anyone else seen it? Can anyone else recommend any AIDS movies that are worth a watch?
"If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story."-Orson Welles

"Buddies." It was the first indie film to deal with the subject of AIDS back in the mid-1980's. It's a very poignant and unjustly overlooked film.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Longtime Companion is my favourite American movie on the theme, but the best - by far - is André Téchiné's Les Témoins/The Witnesses (2007), a superb ensemble drama and a contender for best French film of the 2000s.

I really enjoyed the film. Has anyone else seen it?
I've seen it many years ago on cable, actually a couple of times, I think. I remember Ann-Margret mostly, because she gave a great performance and for that platinum blonde wig that looked fabulous on her. Wish I had taped it back then.

I thought Parting Glances was a very good film. I also thought An Early Frost was fantastic. However for me Longtime Companion addressed the issue the most accurately, and how it affected all their friends, both gay and straight around them.

I really enjoyed The Normal Heart. The Living End is pretty good, but I know Gregg Araki isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Stay back, geek! It's about to get tragic.
