I saw "Metropolis" on TCM tonight. I saw about 10 minutes of the beginning and i took a look at my Madacy VHS version. Do you know what I discovered?
The Madacy version had scenes not shown in the TCM version. It also said that the movie came out in 1924, when it really came out in 1927. So the TCM version isn't complete and plus the beginning is different. Some of the subtitles in the Madacy version say different things not shown in the TCM version. In the TCM version, there is a stadium scene. In the Madacy version, there is no stadium scene. The scene where the robots are walking is like 5 minutes longer thean the TCM version. And plus there is like 5 or 10 minutes that was cut out of the TCM version.
Don't throw away your VHS versions. The music score may be bad, but at least its good for something.

I have 3 copies of the restored version and I have the Madacy VHS version. I taped the restored version off of TCM rwice just to be safe, in case one of my copies get destroyed or something in the future. I also bought the restored version on DVD. Keep your Madacy versions everybody.

There were two scenes I noticed that were not shown in the Madacy version.
#1: The stadium scene.
#2: The scene when all the girls are chasing after this guy in this garden or something is cut out of the Madacy version because of brief nudity in it.
Check out the restored version!

Never mind what I said about the TCM version. There are no scnes missing. Just sthe subtitles are different.
Descrption: In the beginning of the movie, when the robots are walking in lines, the subtitle on the Madacy version says "the day shift" and on the TCM version, the subtitle said "change shift". weird.
Anyway, all of the existing scenes are there and they really did a beautiful job restoring this masterpiece.
