I am doing a project in film studies on The Representation of Teenagers in 'Teen Films'.
It would be great to have any opinions or information that could contribute to my research, as questioning and debates are a big factor in my final project.
So the question is
How do you believe 'teen films' represent teenagers(examples can be used)

The synopsis says she's an employee. Most people are employees after school so she was probably not much older than her character was supposed to be.

Clifford

No one mentioned the first American Pie, and while I perfectly understand why (it is exaggerated and highly stereotypical), I still think that it has some interesting and sort of accurate elements. I wouldn't use it as a guide to understand how teens think and behaves, but if you don't take it too seriously and understand that it's a bit of a satire, it has something.
I actually could relate to many elements from it based on my personal experience in high school, and many people I know do as well. Teenage years are a time of confusion, discovery of ourselves, desire to reach adulthood and a time to have fun (I don't necessarily mean partying every weekends) before having too much responsibilities.
The first American Pie pokes fun at all these elements, in a way. It's not the "to go" teen movie but deserves a mention nevertheless.

Little Darlings, My Bodyguard, Over The Edge, Suburbia, Meatballs, Kids (this one gave me nightmares), and Clueless are a few good ones that come to mind. Oh and Gregory's Girl. You watch these movies and can relate to them. You knew someone like someone in the movie or you yourself were like that person in the movie.

No
Teen films are coming of age stories that specifically deal with the dilemmas of teenage life, such as angst, rebellion, crushes, where high school/college is a usual setting, and often but not always teen party movies:
Dazed and Confused
Superbad
Porky’s
A Walk to Remember
Animal House
Project X
American Pie
The Edge of Seventeen
Ladybird
Booksmart
Road Trip
Carrie wouldn’t be a teen film because, while it does have all the ingredients, such as teen characters, bullying, high school, and a prom, telekinesis and murder aren’t teenage coming-of-age specific issues.
Never lose your desire.

How do you pick among the body of films to decide how teens are being represented? I'm not arguing anything, just wondering. I might find it helpful if we identified the films being considered for this genre. Is it anything where teens are major characters or simply films aimed at the specific tastes of teens or stories about teen life?
Do any of these fit the genre type?
True Grit
My Sister's Keeper
Carrie
The Harry Potter series
Back to the Future
The Twilight series

I totally disagree about the FG board. There are a few smart people there, but they're vastly out-posted by trolls, sock puppets, and idiots having circle jerks or insulting each other.
To answer your question though, I think real teens are younger-looking, less clever and articulate, and less rebellious than teens in movies. And there are a large number of teens that don't abuse drugs, abstain from sex or have monogamous relations, get good grades, and generally respect their parents and teachers. It's just not as entertaining though to make a movie about four guys making a pact to all get into a good college before they graduate. . .

This is the right board for your request but it's a
very
slow board as you can see, so I recommend you try it on the Film General board instead. It's a busy board and although you may get a sarcastic reply or two, they are very knowledgeable there.
For starters, however, I'd say teenagers can be well represented when the director/writers use their personal experiences to create the movie, as in the case of George Lucas who experienced many of the events and knew many of the character types in American Graffiti (1973) when he was of that age.
