Why are feminists mad at filmmakers?

That though isn't the norm. Charlize Theron for one is often talked about for her beauty. Monster was good but often mentioned because beautiful CT wasn't playing beautiful.
I'm not saying that women actresses aren't sometimes enjoyed for roles other than attractiveness. It's also true that men are sometimes cast for theirs. All things being equal though, we know how the scale tips.
We remember Diane Keaton's famous scene in
Something's Gotta Give
. If she'd been out of shape then that's all people would have talked about if they rarely even mentioned it. Instead she receives comments about how good she looks
for her age
. Jack Nicholson wasn't exactly beautiful in that movie yet no one much seemed to care.

There are plenty of roles that don't "degrade" women. How many women would honestly prefer to play a role like Glenn Close did in Albert Knobbs over the typical "attractive" woman who isn't particularly special?

I prefer the term "equalitists" to feminists". Actresses want to work so they take the parts which are available. Better roles could be there if written and willing to be produced.
