Nay. But I did spend plenty of time there as a student. Backpacked all over. I can read and write the lingo.
Thankfully, I probably experienced the last few years of "
how Britain always used to be
" before the s**t-storm of modern-day geek-dung descended on every big capital.
((By this I mean: political correctness, internet, phones, everyone an arse-rimmer, everything LED.))
When I was there, London was still quiet and peaceful. Non-frantic. Still remembered what cool meant.
These days –when I see pics of that silly, bleedin' ferris wheel (???) and some of the other butt-ugly tall buildings –it makes me RETCH.
What the hell is that one disgrace –resembling a woman's sex toy –jutting up into the air like a slimy cucumber? By God how revolting.

The sad fact of the matter is that many under age 30 these days have difficulty in correctly naming the winners of WWII. They can't recall which countries were Axis countries versus which were Allied.
Some twerps (age 18-25) think that Britain fought France. This was reported in a poll 6-7 yrs ago.
Some teens think that '
orcs
' fought WWII.
Or, that Thatcher and John F. Kennedy were leaders at the time.
So intelligent comedy like,
'Carry On'
–rich with the British way-of-life –whizzes right over their heads.
I've heard more'n a few bairns, balk at their very first glimpse of B&W photography.
"What's wrong with the color?"
they whine.
((Yes, they're so mentally weak, that they can't even make this much of a mental adjustment.))
"Did they film in black 'n white ON PURPOSE??? Why?"
You might assume I'm joking but I'm not. Twits raised by the internet really are this vapid. They've never even cooked an egg for themselves, or used a screwdriver, or unclogged a drain on their own.
If there were no way to order fast-food (AKA '
takeaway
') they'd experience panic.
Daft buggers!

What about the boomers.
I can understand the younger generation not having watched them , I don't think anyone under 30 in the UK watch the Carry on Films anymore.
Ps. My two fans are carry on Cabby and Carry on Cleo. Both Sid James finest hours.

'Benny Hill
' is a series which only a retro-TV "connoisseur" would recognize, these days.
However, any any American classic movie buff 'worth their salt', is familiar with
'Carry On'.
But classic film buffs in America are a vanishing specie. It's part of a general 'dumbing-down' of our nation.
Unlike England, contemporary Americans know hardly any history at all. Thanks probably to cellphones, their attention-span is just a few years. Their retention of facts older than their own childhood is weak. It's also difficult for them to absorb any slang phrases other than the ones they already use.
They hardly grasp even basic facts of American history, (military, politics) much less classic American cinema. Therefore they understand even less about Brit flicks.
Thus the English setting presented in 'Carry On' is alien and unfathomable. The wit would not penetrate.
Speaking only for myself personally, I'm a staunch fan of Terry-Thomas. Also admire Hattie Jacques and many of the other cast (some of whom went on to become famous faces in Brit TV)
