The Delhi batsman displayed phenomenal form in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, scoring four half centuries (77, 57, 90 and 94) while leading India Blue in the tournament, which features the country's leading cricketers.
will this great jat rise again?

gambhir throws it away after reaching 50. he should have converted this into a hundred. anyway he might have done enough to be kept in the team for another series.

i remember gambhir scored three 50s in 4 innings during the 2011 tour of south africa. one of them a match saving one.
but frankly, his performances when england toured india and then india toured england were pretty pathetic. he did hit a real rough patch. hope he still has it in him.

Gambhir can outbat Rohit Sharma and Dhawan with his right hand for heaven sake. He is a better player of fast bowling than both of them and while Vijay and Rahul have done well I think Gambhir and Vijay should open with Rahul at 3. Gambhir was incredibly consistent during his peak more than any of these players. Yuvraj even anoited him Sir for this reason. Had it not been for Dhoni and his influence on Kohli Gambhir would be in the test team atleast.
He was no flat track bully certainly not as much as half the team right now.
Had he not injured himself and lost form after World Cup for a brief period (the time when I think he should have been dropped briefly), he would have been the rightful captain of India. He and Sehwag are the link between the Fab 4 generation and the younger post Dhoni crowd. I am not a fanboy so a bad player I wont want to see play due to past laurels.
I wont say the same for Harbhajan, Zaheer or Sehwag all of whom were no more of international calibre. Yuvraj has some value (not a whole lot) in T20 and ODI's. Harbhajan being a spinner can still keep fitness so has a chance to come back (though not yet good enough). but of that lot Gambhir is the only case where he has something still left in the tank to offer.

So, what explains the fact that there has been no biopics of any Military personnel hailing from India ever?
I do remember that there was one series in the 90s (much before Kargil) about Param Veer Chakra awardees. But that was it.
Anyway, cricketers do perform a great social service to the countless unemployed individuals of this country. They do enable to maintain the social fabric and status quo in this country.
Without the sport, there would be many more incidents like Fort Oasis.

and GAMBHIR he takes on DHONI. will he comeback from the dead like GANGULY?
17 martyrs deserve biopic, not cricketer, Gambhir takes a dig at Dhoni film : After stoking a controversy on Sunday, asserting that films shouldn't be made on cricketers, cricketer Gautam Gambhir tweeted today in the aftermath of the Uri attack saying, "These 17 martyrs deserve a biopic rather than any cricketer. No better inspiration than a young man sacrificing his life 4 his country. And these Jawans sacrifice their lives for paltry salaries and not disproportionate money & adulation reserved for us cricketers. Wake up."
Gambhir's comments are seen as controversial considering they have been made barely days before the release of an eagerly-awaited biopic on the life of India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
In the film, titled "MS Dhoni: The Untold Story", Dhoni's character is being portrayed onscreen by Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput. The film, releasing on September 30, is believed to unfold the rags to riches story of Dhoni and has been shot extensively in Dhoni's hometown of Ranchi.
"I don't believe in biopics on cricketers. I think those people who have contributed more to the country than the cricketers deserve a biopic," Gambhir wrote on Twitter.
"There are lots of people in the country who have done so many noble deeds for the nation. Therefore, biopics should be made on their lives," the Delhi batsman added.Gambhir reasoned against the practice of making films on cricketers as many other deserving people as there in different spheres of life on whom movies should be made to highlight their achievements.

" His great batsmanship in outbatting NZ in a test match in NZ to score a century batting and staying put on the wicket to curb his attacking instincts is indeed fantastic."
A single test innings in alien conditions. Even Pujara has one. Hell, even Dhawan scored some runs in NZ.
Gambhir is undoubtably better than Sharma as a Test batsman, but do you want to reason with Kohli.
Dhawan is probably a better Sub continent bully than Gambhir now.

Sorry pimp and man but you guys are wrong on this one. Gambhir is without doubt a better batsman than Dhawan and Rohit Sharma as well as Pujara (who performs on flat tracks and does have future potential but not yet there). While Gambhir has played some gr8 knocks against Oz, SAF and England. His great batsmanship in outbatting NZ in a test match in NZ to score a century batting and staying put on the wicket to curb his attacking instincts is indeed fantastic. In my view him and Vijay would be the best opening pair for India at the moment. I dont know why he has a tiff with Kohli, i know he hated Dhoni but he could have avoided Kohli issue considering both are Delhites, a bhang or ice cream at Nirulas could have helped. Dont get the point.
Had Gambhir remained in the team he would most certainly have been Dhoni's successor especially in tests as Captain.

I am not sure he is a proper jat.
I do feel a bit sad for him cause he could have creamed the NZ attack in here, just like a lucky Dhawan or Vijay. He will never ever be selected and one day, he will finally move on. Without Kohli, he might have had a future for India, at least in tests.
