When Nancy Allen is in the restaurant near the end of the movie (it was filmed in the Windows of the World restaurant at the World Trade Center), she said that if Dr. Elliott was ever sane enough to get out of Bellevue, she’d be the star witness at the trial. WRONG! The movie takes place in New York City. The writer was using England’s laws. In England, if you’re committed to a mental institution after committing a crime and it’s “not guilty by reason of insanity”, and then you’re ever released because you’re sane, THEN they try you for the crime. But in the U.S., if you’re committed to a mental institution after committing a crime and it’s “not guilty by reason of insanity”, and then you’re ever released because you’re sane, you’re a free man (or woman).
