Have you seen "The Loneliness of a Long-Distance Runner"? It's my favorite English movie.

Yes, Get Carter is considered one of the best British films ever! I usually hate remakes, but I actually liked it because it was an obvious tribute to the much better original. Sundays and Cybele was Hardy Kruger's favorite. He's now in his 90s and still going strong! Ali was Fassbinder's best I think.

Foreign language is what I meant. I saw all of them except "Shadows"…. I really like "Sundays with Cybele" and "Ali"
Actually, I didn't see "Get Carter" (saw the awful re-make in theaters, though)… I think I was thinking of "Alfie"

Depends on what you mean by foreign. I mean most films have a US connection. Or do you mean foreign language? Anway:
Sundays and Cybele (1962)
Stomboli (1949)
If British films count Get Carter (1970)
8 1/2, La Dolce Vita
Umbrellas of Cherbourg, young girls of Rochefort
Contempt
Sands of the Kalahari
Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1965)-Ukraine
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974)
to name a few
