😔 Good song. I think this may be the version that was featured on Hell on Wheels. Emmylou Harris also recorded it, but I think I like this one better.

Dave Van Ronk. It's a weird story, but I actually discovered him through a crime novel I read years ago. It was named after a line in this song and the main character discovers the song at one point in the book.
And a few other good ones from him;
Oh, and if you're curious it's this novel:
Two of the others in the series have been made into movies. Eight Million Ways to Die and A Walk Among the Tombstones.
