They had some undeniable hits, but they were basically the first manufactured pop group ever, which isn't very cool. Should I be sad that Peter Tork has died?

They were two actors and two musicians hired to play a rock band in a TV show. They quickly became an honest to goodness band, playing their own music. Personally, I think that is very cool since they did turn out some
undeniable hits
Should you be sad that Peter Tork has died? Only you can decide that. How much did he mean to you?
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Some think they were as good as the Beatles. Not me though.

They were a manufactured group, but their hits were written by legitimate songwriters. Neil Diamond wrote "I'm a Believer." John Stewart of the Kingston Trio wrote "Daydream Believer." It is not like today where these pop songs are written by formula.
