R.S. Summary
:
"I do my best work when I'm in pain and turmoil," Sting told Rolling Stone. And indeed, the dissolution of his first marriage produced some of his best work yet, including "King of Pain" and the stalker's anthem "Every Breath You Take." There was pain and turmoil in the band, too it would be the Police's last album.
My Vote
: Yea. I think it's their best album by a hair, not that such distinctions really matter with this band. It also marks the very last point at which Sting was endurable. As with the other
Police
inclusions on this list, it leaves me asking "Why the hell is it on here?" and "What's the point in playing the entire thing?". The hooks are still juicy, the production is ace, the singles still hold up, and there are some occasionally interesting lyrics, as in "Miss Gradenko" and "Mother". Find a good compilation, leave the original albums buried in the past.
FINAL TALLY: 15-3-0 = 83.3%

Nay. Their worst album by far, which is not saying much since they started out pretty awful to begin with.
I don't believe in a worst Police album, but it's definitely my least favorite.

Big yeah. Their best album. A pop classic. I really like the guitar work on songs like Miss Gradenko, Mother and Murder By Numbers. Love the bitter lyrics in O My God, Synchronicity II, great ballads with Wrapped Around Your Finger Every Breath You Take and King of Pain
Pretty much their 'Sgt Pepper'.

YAY
for every Police album.
And unlike you, I love a lot of solo Sting, too. (As well as a lot of solo and other-project Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers)
