I had to put my own 17 year old cat to sleep 7 years ago. It was for the same reason. They told us dialysis was a very expensive option and that there was no guarantee my cat would survive the night.
I cried of course. I told them I never thought I’d be in this situation with her. They told me I had had her for 17 years which for a cat is a lifetime. My brother told me she was suffering and that we had to let her go.
So I paid $250 and that included incineration and putting her ashes inside a beautiful little wooden urn. Also a little ceramic stone with her paw on it.
We had a sort of funeral if you wanna call it that. I was with her the whole time. Her breaths were labored already so I knew she was suffering and that this was the best option. She went peacefully.

I don’t know how long his cat was sick or for how long he had been on any treatment or if there was any treatment at all. That being said a vet isn’t gonna put an animal to sleep just for the hell of it. You’re being stupid. Or maybe that’s how they do it in whatever weirdo country you’re from.
