Exactly. As long as it's done well again, who cares? Everything is a semi ripoff of something else, which itself was a semi ripoff.
Unfortunately, this was just a bad movie. They didn't improve upon anything nor present anything new. Just weak in about every way

oh who gives a toss if an idea has been done before or not. I think you will be pretty hard pushed to find something totally new that no1 else hasnt done in someway or another.

I agree with alesisqs61 it's not bad and just like a different take on the thing. I'm assuming it was low budget so I think they did a prety good job. Creepy and i liked the sets, very "thing" like. Not the kind of movie i'd pay to see at the cinema but a cheap rental

But actually.. John Carpenter's The Thing more resembled the original novella than The Thing from Another World so it's really not even a remake.it's a different translation of the same novella.a better one at that.
I heard there's to be a prequel to John Carpenter's version though.it will suck I'm sure.
