The writing on Wings, for me, was just a little too juvenile. The romance was too light. The comic relief with El Brendle was appalling. And if the drama lacks credibility no amount of aerial footage is going to fix it. Check out Hell' Angels which is almost a complete rip off of Wings. I like it better.
There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

I haven't seen Hell's Angels yet, but I did like Wings a lot in spite of everything you mentioned.

I agree with you. Just watched 'Wings' and thought it was quite good. I watched 'Hell's Angels' a while back (became interested in seeing it after watching 'The Aviator') and despite some great aerial photography, thought it was pretty hokey.

I feel quite the opposite. The film "Hell's Angels" is more like a comic book or pulp novel of the day. "Wings" is a full novel.
