Check out "It" it's a different genre, and Clara Bow gets more screen time in this one. Was a good silent from the same year also and an hour less then Wings too!

Not a fan of war movies,airplanes or pilots,so this movie was just alright for me.I have seen and enjoyed much better silents.Clara Bow was a stand out for me,very pretty,and sensual,with lots of charisma.

Audio technology was not developed enough in 1927 for sound-on-film. No later modern audio added would be acceptable, beyond the theatre organ sound accompaniment, which was the way people saw the movie in 1927. This is the way it was and I would not want it any other way.

Well all films were silent then and didnt become sound until the late twenties and early thirties. I dont think there was anything they could do about it tbh
Because of the idea of combining motion pictures with recorded sound is nearly as old as film itself, but because of the technical challenges involved, synchronized dialogue was only made practical in the late 1920s with the perfection of the audion amplifier tube and the introduction of the Vitaphone system. After The Jazz Singer in 1927, "talkies" became more and more commonplace and within a decade silent films had died out. In a nutshell, it wasn't because they didnt want to, its because the technology had not quite been developed.
I guess it was phenomenal to have that kind of technology back in the 20s to begin with, and in the 10s when Charlie Chaplin was famous! All the filming and editing etc.
I think in a way its good material to analyse and observe and see how movies compensated for having no spoken dialogue and sound effects for anything involved in the movie. They had to rely on background music and compose the music to compliment the movie. Also the acting would seem to need to be a bit more
I dont know if exaggerated is the best way to put it, but they had to be good at acting to stand out and capture the audience.
Btw if you are interested, Clara Bow (Mary Preston) has done some sound films, Hoop-la and Call Her Savage if you are interested in seeing a silent star in a sound film, and hearing her voice. They are bloody hard to find mind you.

Just watched it on TCM and I didn't see a good film, I saw a Great film. This film is stunningly superior in cinematography, editing and story telling. Audio "might" have made it better but I don't know.

Too bad there was NO audio other than music; because if there was it would have been a good film; but what do expect back in 1927 !
