lots of scenes where Alison is getting dressed or undressed with her maid holding up the towel between the camera and "nude" actress i kept wondering if I should be putting a quarter in somewhere to keep the peep show going. Oh, and one more thing.. In the board meeting, she is determined to hire Thorn so they can develop an "automatic gearshift" car, yet later, they are discussing where to put the clutch guess the automatic clutch thing didnt work out..

pre movie -code- enforcement for sure - ksf-2
The first half, yes, pre-Code. But the second half succumbs to then-contemporary convention of a woman assuming the traditional role.
But at least Ruth Chatterton's Alison Drake can say that she has "a head for business and a bod for sin" long before Melanie Griffith did in

Pretty radical movie for the 1930's! Most women in those days were housewives, nurses, or teachers. Nice to see a movie about a woman of that era having power! One thing that worried me , didn't the thought of getting pregnant or catching a STD worry Allison? She did sleep around a lot! That was cool her bf was going to help her retain her company in the end, although she was tired of running it.

I like how Alison Drake was a total gearhead who didn't look like a tomboy.
Well done.
From Wikipedia's page on Automatic Transmissions:
"In the 1930s, both Reo and General Motors developed semi-automatic transmissions that were less difficult to operate than a fully manual unit. These designs, however, continued to use a clutch to engage the engine with the transmission."
