When she sees her husband lying on the floor after being attacked by the invisible man, she completely loses it and he tells her to shut up
. Then there's also the very last shot of her running away from the invisible man's rampage at the bar/inn screaming "don't leave! wait for me!" Haha. It's hilarious stuff.

She was the best thing in the movie! I cracked UP at her and her delayed screams! Something would happen and she would scream 5 minutes later! Just take a look and watch it. The first scream takes place at the door. The invisible man slams the door in her face, knocking her tray out of her hand. The tray and the dishes hit the floor and then she screams! I HOLLERED the first time I saw that!!!!!

Her screaming didn't bother me nearly as much as her accent.

she is a riotbut i did finally have to hit the mute button when i saw she was going to shriek.

For me, the problem is her loud, grating shrieking. It assaults the ears. perhaps the sound engineer is to be blamed, rather than the actress.

A little Una O'Connor goes a long way. I found her amusing for a minute or so early on, soon thereafter began wishing that Griffin would throttle her, make her his first victim.

She was pretty over the top, but I do understand what others have said that that's the whole point of the character. I actually found her sort of amusing, even when she screamed for no good reason.

Well, I didn't watch it as a comedy, but a horror film
Even horror movies have comic relief.

Of course she's supposed to be funny. If you knew anything about this film and its director James Whale, you'd know he had a very camp and dark sense of humor. Well, maybe not dark for most of today's audience, but her presence in what is essentially a horror film is definitely supposed to be comic relief. The whole opening sequence with the yokels in the pub coming face to face with this unbelievable idea of invisible men is richly comic. In fact, Claude Rains himself has some funny lines/scenes as well.

I liked her a lot, but the pitch was killing me.

alot of horror films rely upon comedic relief (which she certainly was) and remember this film was made in 1933! and at the time, an invisible man was above and beyond most common perceptions of horrorcompared to today, with a new beyond desensitized audience who is used to boundless gore and brutalityThe Invisible Man would be quite tame.

Haha, yeah I just saw this recently too. I thought it was annoying at first, but I think it really is a joke. I found it more amusing when I watched the movie the second time with commentary. Did you notice all of the strange characters you see at the beginning in that pub? That's what makes the movie so dynamic.
