It's neither fantastic, nor bad - and not that hilarious neither. I gave it a 6 which it deserves. I think the low rating stems from potheads taking the movie as an insult. Blaming this movie for creating hysteria is as ridiculous as blaming violence on horror movies. It's a movie, not reality.
Antiparanoia is the eerie feeling that nothing is connected to anything else

Not a great film by any means, but its exaggerated message makes this worth one's time. I give it a 5.5./10 for the entertainment value.

I agree. Back in high school, my friends and I would get stoned and watch this movie. I once watched it high on shrooms back in my Sophomore year and it became even more hilarious (which was probably because the people in the movie seem to be more on PSP or acid than marijuana).
Watching it sober is funny too. Either way, I enjoy this movie. It's interesting to see how paranoid people were back then

I gave it a low rating because it's so over-the-top and ridiculous. The acting and the story are pretty bad, it's sensational BS, and it spreads misinformation. Now, some of those things also make for a hilarious movie, but that doesn't make it good. It still sucks, despite its comedy factor.

It's in the so-bad-its-good category, and because of that the lower the rating the better it is. Makes sense, right? This movie is (was) 100% serious, and it scared the sh!t out of people back then. I personally gave it a low rating because of how effectively it demonized the plant to the impressionable people of the time, and how harmful it was to cannabis' reputation. It was responsible for breeding ignorance and the spreading of irrational fear. Cannabis prohibition became firmly cemented into our society as soon as they had the general population's support because of fear films like this. A lot of people still eat this crap up like it's fact, and that's a big problem.
Plus films with low IMDb ratings can often provide the best laughs.

i think its because this movie was meant to be taken seriously. That wasn't how it turned out however.

I know, I had a really bad hangover this morning and I thouroughly enjoyed watching it, it kept me glued to the screen, I didn't even want to get up to puke.
