<p dir="auto">When Valerie Hobson is held prisoner on the steam ship and then does her "I forgot about the war " speech her collapse onto the stairs was a classic piece of over acting, much copied by comedy skit shows.  Now I know where they got it from. Sebastian Shaw's tight lipped restrained wave from the bridge of the destroyer was also part of the 30#s restrained acting.  Wonderful.</p>

Valerie could also do restrained very well. It's not her so much as it's the style that was popular at the time<br />
