I love CK. I think it's one of the great films of all times. I prefer Vertigo, but I also prefer the film that beat CK out for the Academy Award: John Ford's How Green Was My Valley. Welles has often given Ford credit as his master, and if you compare the two films, you see striking resemblances wrt images and just general cinematic composition. Ford's film is not as highly regarded now as it should be. It's a wonderful movie, full of an emotional resonance that the immature Welles film doesn't attain.

I know but its kinda bs, like if thats the case then Sucker Punch should be at the top 5 and is one of the worst films.

Too conventional/not "cinematic" enough for the voters. I mean, look at the films in the top 30, let alone the top 10!

Probably for the same reason the Academy did not award it as best picture and other deserved awards much to its' discredit as is so common.

Well I admit I'm biased as Hitchcock is my favorite director and Jimmy Stewart my favorite actor; Vertigo is my favorite movie of all time. However, it has been a long time since I've watched Citizen Kane, I saw it when I was 16 and I am now 32 so I could definitely use a rewatch. I watched Kane in a film appreciation class in high school, I remember finding it cold at the time. My favorite film we watched in that class was Rebecca, which got me started on my love for Hitchcock.
I never understood the criticism that Jimmy Stewart was too old when he played in Vertigo because there are still aging detectives today and also younger woman that fall in love with older men. As for the ending, I personally loved it. I tend to believe that Judy, racked with guilt and knowing that Scottie would never love her for herself, jumped to her death instead of the nun spooking her. I find this film endlessly and psychologically fascinating and consider it to be the greatest film I have seen

Vertigo is awesome, and easily the best Hitchcock film ever.
But to use a clichd expression quite literally, it's no Citizen Kane.

Its quite simple. Vertigo is a better movie than Citizen Kane.
