Here's another movie that metaphorically pierces the veil that protects the quiet men who rule our rulers. Conspiracy movies don't do well since they are necessarily complex, but some of the simple games they play and the plans they implement are suitable for film. The dead man who dominates this movie is an Illuminati figure who is driven to spin webs of deceit. They stop short of baldly stating that he sold his soul, but the implication (his dramatic changes) hangs in the air between Tracy and Hepburn. The need to destroy something that has become evil is a very common theme in popular movies, and is an important motivation behind the film's denouement.
