I got the impression that a great deal of time (several months at least) passed between when Mr. Ballard first showed Mrs. Miniver the rose and the actual flower show.
Unless I just didn't see it right, throughout that entire time the rose was in a vase.

A year passes between the two scenes that show the rose so, of course, it's not the same cut flower in each. Roses are perennials that bloom every year. Once Mr. Ballard cultivated the Mrs. Miniver rose, next year's blooms would look the same.
