The Walter Pidgeon I knew was the older, almost-grandfatherly type he played in the classic "Forbidden Planet" (still marvel at those special effects of the "machinery" in the planet). I never knew of Walter Pidgeon as a real ladies man until I saw him in this.
However, I think he cuts an even more handsome figure as Dr. Curie the following year, 1943, when he is paired once again with the always ravishing Greer Garson as the future Madame Curie ("All this and brains, too"). Pidgeon's beard in that movie really gives him quite the aristocratic look.
BTW, I stumbled across this rarely-seen Kirk Douglas tour de force one day which also features Walter in a more Hollywood-ish wheeler-dealer role: "The Bad and the Beautiful." Great scenery-tearing role for Kirk, and look especially for that wonderful set-piece set-up and direction when you are watching the filming of a movie and then the camera (your perspective) moves back and up along all the crew behind the scenes, watching the filming. Just perfect! Note all the actor placements, body language, even the faces are perfect for the crew position roles they're playing. Wonderful!
