<p dir="auto">Someone both bulkier and younger was always more logical.<br />
Thing is, I think he could have been great as The Monster of the Novel. The intellectual Monster who quotes Paradise Lost and waxes philosophical. Which we've still never seen justice done to.<br />
I feel the same about Christopher Lee actually, in fact that's part of why I included him in this casting thread of mine.<br />

<p dir="auto">I agree that Lugosi never had the right look for the monster, but not because he needed to be bulkier. Karloff was rail thin and it gave his monster a nice gaunt appearance. The "bulk" was lots of padding. Lugosi's face was too "jowly" (some might say the same about Chaney).<br />
I've always wished Glenn Strange had started playing the monster in FMTWM.</p>
