Hello from 2013 (almost 2014) I agree with everything you said here. THis movie is pretty great.

Maybe I am the only one in the whole wide world that thinks that Fr meets the WM is great, the first half or so. It has a magnificent atmosphere, and that Chaney is even better here than in The Wolf Man 41. His scenes with Ouspenskaya here is very good and very very touching, great chemistry between them. Also the actual horror scenes with werewolf attacks is better made here, probably bigger budget. think the 1940s monster flicks should be evaluated, Many of them look very good, and are better than they say in most horror film literature

Correction, he got cured in The House of Dracula.
I prefer to ignore his final appearance in the Abbott and Costello movie, regarding it as just a spoof movie (and a very enjoyable one at that!).

He finally got cured by Dr. Edelman in Ghost of Frankenstein. Then, strangely enough, he relapsed in Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein. So who knows.

No kidding the hero just wanted to be able to die. Hardly happy ending material under even the best circumstances.
Having said that, I found Chaney a bit overwrought at times. (Didn't the commentary pundit on The Wolf Man mention that the actor often asked for scenes in which he'd be allowed to cry? He does it fairly well, I guess.)

Yeah. I'll probably see the new Wolf Man when it comes out next year. But I doubt I'll rate it as high as the original

Agreed!!!The pathos Chaney brought to the role of Larry Talbot was incredible. One of my all time favorite characters in movies.
