magazine about ten years ago stated that her role as Maleva in this film was truncated because there was an accident involving the horse-drawn wagon. She was injured and hospitalized, making her unavailable for further filming here. Consequently, remaining-to-be-shot scenes intended to feature Maleva were rewritten to eliminate her.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! Yes, I also remember reading the exact ending you are talking about. There was supposed to be a completely different type music score at the end as the page from the dairy was floating down the currents from the blown up dam. There was a line of soft cover books that were released with the original working scripts and behind the scenes photos in them. I saw " Ghost Of Frankenstein " and " Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman " at our library about thirteen years ago. Checked them out and enjoyed them greatly. Does anyone alse remember these large soft cover books? If I am not mistaken, I think that book also had Bela's cut out lines from " Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman?. I could be wrong, though.I'll have to try and check those books out again. Like I said, it has been a few years.

First off, Maleva had a few final lines in Siodmak's script that didn't make it into the film. MALEVA: Insane? He is not insane. He simply wants to die[edit] that is all he asks of the doctor. ELSA: Are you asking Doctor [Mannering] to kill a man? MALEVA: It would not be murder. It would be an act of grace to deliver this unfortunate soul from the curse of such suffering. My powers have failed - but my prayers will be answered! [Maleva exits.] In the script's climax, Maleva hitches her horse to the wagon. When Vazec's dynamite blows up the dam, Maleva walks back toward the castle without fear. A storm arises, simultaneous to the rampaging flood. Escaping the ruins, the doctor carries Elsa to the wagon and helps her aboard, then quiets the panicked horse. Maleva and the doctor climb onto the wagon and drive away. The three arrive in town as the stunned villagers observe the destruction. Elsa and the doctor disembark, joining the onlookers. Maleva drives off in the wagon, unnoticed by the crowd, as the storm subsides. The last shot was supposed to show a page from Frankenstein's diary floating away in the dark waters. Obviously, the film doesn't end quite like that. (For one thing, no storm.) Roy William Neill must have chosen to film it differently and the editing may have changed it further.

Perhaps the answer to this quandary about Maleva's fate was left for dead on the cutting room floor along with Bela's dialouge? I have seen one or two outtake photos to suggest there was a scene where Larry and Maleva are in the castle conversing about something and the Monster is there with them.

I like to think that she survived. She did know that Larry was supposed to die, and without him, why would she stick around? Particulary if she heard all the commotion in the castle.
She probably just snuck away and went back to her village, what's the point in thinking otherwise?

Just watched it on AMC this morning. That has always bothered me too. It seems like they did kus leaver her to perish. That was a movi mistake. The character deserved better and they shoul have had her run to the labratory and meet them both during the rucus
