I love her in this. I think she has a really poignant and lovely quality, especially in the bedroom scene with Louis Hayward when she tells of taking care of her sister. It annoys me when people dismiss her in this as "bland" and "dull". She was really haunting and underrated.

I have to agree with you, she's rather bland and can't hold her own with that awesome cast of character actors but then she was never a major name in Hollywood - I'm kind of surprised she landed the female lead in this important film for it's time.

I admit, I'm among those who have described her as bland and dull and I have to stand by that. I've not seen her in any other movies, but for this one she just does not have an engaging presence IMO. I liked Shirley Eaton a lot better in the 65 version.

I agree too. I thought she was very appealing. I really thought her performance was one of the strongest in the movie, entirely free from the hamminess that mars some of the others. (Some of this was of course for comic purposes.)

I agree. I liked her in it too, she looked beautiful as usual. She wasn't dull, her character isn't exactly the strongest character in the film now, is she?
