A three part drama series so I'm guess 1hr per episode which makes me think the director might stick to the original ending.
Though I'm in the camp that the original ending works better for the books or radio rather than a visual medium like film or tv.

I think the original ending would work in TV or Movies. a decent Director with a good cast could pull it off
