There is one book publisher pulling a riddle, and we can not find the solution to a very hard question regarding this movie:
It says that Harpo was asked by the producers to speak one sinlge word in this movie. He was offered a huge amount of money to say it, as usually he is absolutely mute in his movies. He refused and remained silent as ever.
The question is: What was the word?
If anybody knows, please let me know, as I can not find anything about this in the net.
Many thanks in advance for your help!!

As far as I know, the only known sound, besides whistling, to come out of Harpo's mouth in their movies, is a sneezing "achoo" in "At The Circus"
He barked like a seal in A Night in Casablanca

No - one of the singers extends the syllables of the last line pretty good, as in "Sweeeeeeet-Aaaaad-elllll-iiiine"
It's a very distinctive voice - but my guess is that the voice is Harpo's, since the singers are not shown on-camera; instead, they are all stowed away in 4 barrels and the camera only shows the exteriors of the barrels.
I think this was the Marx's own little joke: having Harpo vocalize but never revealing that it's his voice.
"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac' HONEY!"

"Also, there are only three voices singing "Sweet Adeline" in Monkey Business."
And you can bet your last dime that Harpo's wasn't one of them.

Plus singing doesn't count as "dialogue". Even Charlie Chaplin sang at the end of Modern Times.

In answer to your question, b_giftig, Harpo was offered $10,000 to shout the word "Murder!" Instead of verbally declining, Harpo simply smiled and shook his head.
