Just watched this film last night and enjoyed it for the most part. One question lingers for me: did Poldi's cousin in fact bring something into the country (something other than the plague, such as money)? I don't remember this issue being resolved in the film. If Poldi's cousin DIDN'T bring money or something valuable into the country, then how was Poldi able to afford the expensive shirt, perfume, night on the town with a woman, etc.? We know from Blackie that Poldi was known not to have much dough of his own. Any answers or opinions would be appreciated.

It's a bit late in the day to add to this thread, but I have to agree with ragreen's sentiments. As many posts on this website reveal, many of us miss the occasional point for one reason or another - poor editing to fit into TV schedules, an unsatisfactory recording, an interruption when watching it directly on TV.
A few years ago, I made an observation when commenting on the remake of "The Flight of the Phoenix" which prompted someone else to ask tartly if I'd actually watched the film. As it happened, it was he who had missed the point, possibly through ignorance of what a phoenix was.

One can point it out, but one doesn't have to be a self-important, petty, self-righteous prick about it like wokka. I guess some people have to work hard to place themselves above others.

The film clearly presents what Poldi's cousin brought in, so I have to echo that if one was really paying attention then one couldn't have missed that.
It explained Poldi's sudden spending and it add more insight to the doctor/cop relationship that was strained by the end of the film.

Thanks, Professor. I'm glad you never miss anything while you watch a film. Try just answering the question without the childish concluding remark next time.

I think the film made abundantly clear at the end that what was brought in was a box of perfume that hadn't gone through customs, and was worth about $300, although it hadn't been sold, and the police captain offered a bottle to Dr. Reed. Try watching the movie the whole way through next time.
