Julie Harris was 27 when this came out. She looks like she's in her mid 30s and she's playing a 12 year old. I don't know how anyone can look past this. She's drasticially out of place and miscast in this film. It's just odd that anyone would think this would work.

12 year olds didn't exist in 1953.

Also Frankie complains she is too tall for her age and feels that it makes her a freak. So that confirms a believability in her looking older than she really is.

When I first saw this movie, it was she in the kitchen in her slip the day before the wedding, and I thought it was a 12 year old boy, so to me it was very believable. Also keep in mind though the whole point is Frankie DOESN'T look like a child otherwise that sailor would never have taken her into the backroom.

Totally agree! I just began watching this, and when she states in the first few minutes of the movie that she's 12 it was a true WTF moment. I don't know if I'll continue watching since it really is ridiculous casting and exceeds the bounds of "suspension of reality"
on a side note, she reminds me of Cynthia Nixon.
