it is not that good. It has some great things about it (great selection of Irving Berlin tunes, the great Ethel Merman in one of her rare screen performances, great productions values), but I find it hard to sit through the whole movie. The plot is melodrama (popular during the fifties), but I find it difficult to care much what is happening. Some nice musical numbers, and, as I said before, MERMAN!
"What do you want me to do, draw a picture? Spell it out!"

I saw it last night on Blu-ray in my HT, on my 133 inch front-projection screen. While there's not much to call home about the plot, the rest - viz the music, the choreography, the dancing, the costumes, the colours, etc. - were mesmerizing to say the least. Fabulous! A film to watch, especially if you've got a big screen and good audio equipment.
