I saw it it on the big screen when it first came out and it was great even to a young child and is still great to see to an aging man. One thing I once read was that when Burt Lancaster and his company decided to film this movie they wanted to have another big box office name so they approached Gary Cooper about starring in it. Cooper wasn't interested in going to Mexico to film a movie so they offered him the hugh sum at that time of one million dollars. Cooper accepted then. It turned out it was well worth it because the movie was very profitable and did well at the box office.

Vera Cruz ranks high among my favorite films Gary Cooper or Burt Lancaster ever made. It's a terrific western with some great acting and the ending is fantastic.
"Dry your eyes baby, it's out of character."
