I find it particularly sad, that Edwards wasn't in charge of the new 'Pink Panther' films. To me, he, more than anyone, including Sellers, caused the brilliance of the originals.

And that is sad about Blake Edwards. It sounds like he died suddenly, for him to have still had active projects.

This very good episode aired today on RetroTV in the midwest region. Mr. Murphy got to display some very efficient-looking fighting skills, credibility in more tender kinds of scenes, and the ability to capture that misplaced smugness when someone has just done something way the devil out of line, for which they nevertheless are confident they will receive no retribution, that is a humorous Edwards trademark. The theme of "The Short Motive," which concerns what happens to warriors after the war is ended, is a frequent one in the
Peter Gunn
series. Unfortunately I suppose, that's part of why it seems so fresh nowadays.
Also today comes the sad news of Blake Edwards's death. As he still had active projects, we will all get a chance to miss him, but condolences to his friends and family who will live with his loss and would do so regardless.
I note that this appears to leave Lola Albright and Herbert Ellis (5 appearences as "Wilbur") as the last of the series regulars. Lamont Johnson, director of 14 episodes including frequent favorites "The Family Affair" and "The Dummy," died earlier this year.
