I think Jon Hamm would be really great as Peter Gunn and I was wondering if it was possible to contact the rights owners to suggest it.

Jon Hamm could certainly pull off looking the part, if they were to get around to doing a remake of the show or a movie. He's close to the look already, in Mad Men. I don't generally like remakes, but if one were to be made, I'd see it.
