This trivia item strikes me as highly suspect:
"Louis Malle shot his lead actress Jeanne Moreau in close-up and natural light and often without make-up. Moreau, an icon of French film, had never been seen like this before, to the extent that lab technicians, reportedly appalled at how unflatteringly she was photographed, refused to process the film. Once they were persuaded to, however, it soon began clear that Malle had captured every nuance of Moreau's performance."
The question that should immediately come to mind is, how would the lab techs have any idea that Moreau had been unflatteringly photographed without processing the film first?

I don't know about all that, but I was quite distracted by seeing her nose hair in the opening shot.

I'm a bit suspicious about the statement that Moreau was wearing no makeup. No Cleopatra job, obviously, but if that wasn't eyeshadow, then my name isn'twait, what is my name?
She is a great beauty, though.

What rights have lab technicians got in deciding whether or not to process a film because they deem the actress 'unflattering' in a close-up? That's like Jessops refusing to develop my prints because I shot my girlfriend out of focus. I'm sure Malle would have slapped them with a wet fish if they told him that.

It is suspect, since I always thought this movie made Jeanne Moreau an icon of French cinema.
Also, to say that Miles Davis recorded the soundtrack with local French musicians is technically true, but a bit odd.
Drummer Kenny Clarke was one of the leading figures in the New York bebopscene of the 1940's. He lived in France at the time, but was certainly not a local Frenchman.

Jeanne Moreau, like the great Ingrid Bergman, looks better with no make-up on than most beauty contest winners. And she delivers a magnificent performance and nails every nuance of her role.
Did he train you? Did he rehearse you? Did he tell you exactly what to do, what to say?!

Well, I think what was meant was that after some of the film was processed that they refused to process it any further.
