Yvette Vickers, an early Playboy playmate whose credits as a B-movie actress included such cult films as "Attack of the 50-Foot Woman" and "Attack of the Giant Leeches," was found dead last week at her Benedict Canyon home. Her body appears to have gone undiscovered for months, police said.
I saw this movie in the summer of 1958, even at the age of 13, it was scary!

As others have pointed out, Yvette Vickers did not play the 50-foot woman.
Anyway, although its been four years now since her body was discovered, I do have to say that its very sad the way she died. I found her stunningly sexy and beautiful in this movie and she gave quite a good performance too.

I'm watching it right now. It's not a bad film. The acting is good if not overplayed by Allison Hayes and some other minor characters (such as the nurse). I have no idea why they always had the women screaming their heads off no matter who their characters were. Hayes seeing the satellite (alien space craft) shouldn't have made her scream, whether drunk or not. From her perspective it's just a big round ball. She should have only started screaming when the giant hand came out of it; that probably would have caused anyone to scream. The nurse had intermittent screams. It was seeing the giant Hayes arm made her scream. Fine. But then she stops and looks at it curiously then starts screaming. Calls over the doctor. Pauses. Looks at it calmly with curious eyes begins to scream. Next scene she's being sarcastic about the situation. That was one of the main problems with these films back then. Hasn't gotten better by today's standards but sometimes the woman is the hero. Back then they were the fodder.

Seriously, no one would ever call ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN a great (or even a good film), but it takes a real professional to give a good performance in a movie like that.
Really well-said, and it's a position I've always held, too. It's worth remembering this particularly in an age of unrelenting snark thrown out there constantly by people who've never actually achieved anything or done anything artistic in their lives.

A few years ago, I met Ms. Vickers at a Chiller Theatre Con. I complimented her on her performance. She is very believable as a small-town slut. She was quite pleased and blew me a kiss.
The news is so sad. She deserved better.

It is worth noting that Yvette Vickers did not play the 50 Foot Woman. She played the mistress of the 50 Foot Woman's husband.

That was so sad. Neighbors described her as having a warm smile and an "independent spirit." Yet no one bothered to check up on an 82 year old woman? What is the world coming to? No one deserves to die alone like that.
