I like "The Definat Ones" alot more than "I'm a fugitive from a chain gang." "Chain gang" just didn't grab me like "Definat Ones" did. Also WTH was up with "Chain gang"'s abrupt ending??

I disagree. I think it is pretty average when compared with the likes of I was a Fugitive from a Chain Gang and The Fugitive.
It's precisely because you're comparing it with such films that it's "average".
It's glaringly clear that the movie's message was totally lost on you, despite being blatantly obvious. They couldn't have delinated it in more digestable terms.
