Contrary to what appears on these boards, this movie bears no relationship at all to Faulkner's The Hamlet or any other writing. Ben Quick is a very minor character in the book. Ratliff is a major character appearing in every scene. Many major characters a re missing, and Clara does not exist. Eula is Varner's daughter, not daughter-in-law.
And the book is a comic novel.

A emotionally powerful movie where nothing is left on the table.
Compared to the trash they make today with two dimensional plot and characters is noteworthy.
In the super hot and humid Deep South. Like it a lot!
