This pic is stunning:
the great Orson with that domineering manner.Strong supporting cast;the chemistry of Joanne and Newman was a nice slo-burn waiting to explode !
You can feel the heat, humidity and the smouldering envy, longing and wistfulness of the olde South.
Newman IS Ben Quick and is charismatic and has a drive 2nd to none in his ambition to be somebody and bury his past.Poor Jody seeking his patriarchal Dad's approval and love.Lee Remick is a revelation and Angela Lansbury is letter perfect in standing up to"Big Daddy" Varnerand that's enough for me to give it a hardy 10 !

Paul Newman was so good in this one! He was always fantastic, but he ate up roles like this. Reminded me a lot of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Great cast, Joanne Woodward especially.

It's a fine film, but it could have been better. No real complaints though.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Agreed!!! I think it's stunning. Great Orson W.- his voice, his talent to perform are unbelievable. All cast are strong! I enjoy every time I see the picture. Nothing close to contemporary taste of the new 21st century wave of the cinema. This is a really art. Indeed.
