I concur. This film has this powerful ring of real truth and accuracy to it that makes it quite haunting and moving in equal measure.
I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find

It's amongst one of the greatest historical dramas ever made. It's one of those movies (for me) you enjoy while watching but it's not until after that the scope of what you just witnessed becomes apparent. It's such a tragedy and the magnitude of it is so surreal. It shows the sinking with slow pacing and allows us to understand why the passengers had such a reaction that did. As it continues a sense of dread comes upon us because the magnitude of what will happen becomes obvious, and then you sympathize in their final moments for all on board.
The practical effects, limited use of score (allowing us to just hear the sounds of a sinking ship and the panic), atmosphere, everything about this is incredible. A review here on IMDb is titled: "This movie is staggering" and I can't see anyone who would disagree. It's cinema at it's finest and showing what it is capable of. It's a monumental achievement.
