Does anybody else wonder why this movie isn't considered a classic? Maybe it's just me, but I've seen this movie for 14 years, and I can't see it as just being 'another movie' that did allright, but nobody really remembered it.

Black humor? That's funny, that's something I never thought of regarding this movie, but I guess it makes sense. One of my favorite of those moments was when Lizzie was reading how the Bat was ripping open women's throats and Cornelia said "That's a charming little caper, I'll have to try it sometime" and Lizzie is just GAWKING at her with this horrified stare and Cornelia says, "In a book!"

This is definitely a classic in my book, even if it's largely forgotten by the public.
It has excellent performances by Vincent Price, Agnes Moorhead and the rest of the cast, some truly suspenseful moments, and a good amount of black humor.
I bought one of the public domain DVDs for $1.95, but I'd love to see a quality print on DVD.

And what I don't get isonly people who have seen the VHS tape of it will know this, in the beginning before we come to the opening credits, the screen is black and you hear this truly terrifying (at least it always was to me) music BEFORE the bat comes on with the credits, and that is ONLY found on the VHS tapes, not the DVDs, not even when it's shown on cable TV. They ought to come out with a good DVD edition of it with the full opening as well.

I definitely think of this film as a classic. And we need a good DVD release of it, too, instead of just these dodgy, scratchy public domain transfers.

I own this movie ( I bought for a buck in a double feature package) and When I was watching this I thought it should be remade. But in my eyes it is a classic.
