Near the end of the film when the women are hiding behind the trunks, and Mr. Davenport opens the secret door, he shoots at the Bat and misses, and the Bat shoots him and kills him. Right when Mr. Davenport fires his gun, there's not much of a chance to tell from where the women were hiding, whether the Bat had been shot or not, but they started screaming right when it happened. Now you'd think that they'd just start screaming when Mr. Davenport got shot and fell over. Does anybody agree?

Probably, but it still seems odd to me because they knew he'd be firing at the Bat.
