I recorded this off TCM a few months back and just got around to watching it. You're right, it is a gem! I knew if it came from the same man that gave us "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Attack of the Crab Monsters" it would be a fun movie but I think it beats both of those! I really got a kick out of this one and Corman is the master of mixing satire into what some might consider horror. I think it is dark comedy as opposed to horror and great satire at that. Corman is the man.

What a neat little film this turned out to be. A lot of corny dialogue, but some real zingers scattered in there to cause some hearty chuckles. It held my attention throughout and was not the cringefest I had thought it would be. Certainly worth watching again & I give it a 7.5 .

The dialogue at Maxwell's house prior to the unveiling of the statue Walter made from insufferable model Alice is so contemporary:
MAXWELL: Ah, breakfast!
CARLA: Watch it, the plate's hot!
MAXWELL: Are these fertile eggs?
CARLA: Are these eggs fertile?! Naturally!
MAXWELL: What did you fry them in?
CARLA: We ran out of the safflower seed oil, but I found a bottle of peanut oil on the shelf. Don't worry, it's not hydrogenated!
MAXWELL: Is that the cold-pressed stuff or the junk Hilda bought by mistake?
I could go into any Whole Foods and hear talk like this!

I gave it a 10, too. My favorite line, sorry-it's not exact-is when 1 of the girls says,'aware of what.' and the other one says, 'just aware, stupid.'

The scary part is that I've met people like this at a University near dayton ohio. A bunch of uppity artsy types that pretend to be open minded, but hate everything that doesnt center around their own egos. Man was this filmed at WSU??

I may not have a big tricked out name tag, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I absolutely agree! My 2 favorite things in the film are:
1a) Freddy the cat being stiff as a board ony 30 seconds after being killed.
1b) Walter actually leaving the knife in and covering that in clay as well.
2) Maxwell (the more 'upperclass' of the beatnicks) wearing sandals with his formal suit, and him helping to give chase in them as well! What a pisser! I thought that was SUCH a great touch, and added even more "reality detail" to the films many other elements of such.
An extremely fun movie (I mean c'mon, even Bert Convey's there to lend a few moments of support). I know this will get repeat viewings from me.
