I'm sure many people will disagree with me but, while I didn't hate this movie, I can't say I liked it. Mediocre overall, with an ending that doesn't fit with the film that proceeded. Although there are some nice characterizations, in the end they throw it all away, IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! I'm not saying the ending makes no sense, I'm saying the direction they took the third act made no sense. I think the reason the French critics were so upset with Franju, has little to do with the fact that he made a "lowly" horror film, and more to do with the fact that he made a average horror film.

I feel it's rated just fine. There are some pretty chilling moments. I was very into the movie.
So many stories, so little time.

Mediocre huh now if this film was made today sure id agree but we're talking of a horror film in the 60s and there wasn't to many horror film of that period and before that you can compare too. I think mediocre can be pointed towards today's horror films check out the skin i live infor mediocre..or some early british horror such as circus of horror.
