I recently saw "Beyond the Sea" I admit it, I am a sucker and I'll watch anything with Kevin Spacey in it. In the biopic, it showed the late Bobby Darin meeting his wife Sandra Dee on the set of a european film I was wondering if anyone out there in IMDB land happened to know if THIS was the film where the two met?

I liked Rock Hudson continually wincing at the lyrics of 'Multiplication' being sung by Bobby Darin. Perhaps Rock thought that the song was a little bit too direct.

You did grow up in a great time, I was just a little kid in 1961, but I remember enough of that time and before to know it was indeed something wonderful. I think most the films made then convey the attitude-with the exception of one such as Psycho-but even that is campy fun.

Hey folks,
In 1961 I was a big fan of Bobby Darin, and I hate to say that I had a "crush" on Sandra Dee (the idea of a "crush" just seems so childish to me), but I really did think she was a doll. Rock Hudson was also a favorite manly actor to me, and Gina Lollobrigida was also a real babe. With Darin and Dee, however, they were closer to my own age, and I could very easily identify with their characters. With the idea of the carefree riding of the Vespa motor scooters thrown in, this was absolutely a splendid film of gay celebration for me in 1961.
I just finished watching it again for the first time in many years, and I am afraid it is not quite so great to me as it once was. The passage of time may have taken away from the story for me somewhat, but I was still captivated by the gay romantic fun portrayed by Darin and Dee. They are both still favorites of mine. And while I may still have the fondest of memories of my old 1956 Harley 74 which is long gone, I may have given in to my second childhood by recently buying a new Bajaj motor scooter which is essentially a knockoff of the old Vespa 150. My wife still makes a good Sandra Dee to my rather poor idea of Bobby Darin, but the thoughts are still good.
I have often said and still believe my wife and I grew up in the best times ever.
Best wishes,
Dave Wile

And to think that Sandra Dee's mother was trying to fix her up with Rock Hudson instead of Bobby Darin (well that's how it was played in "Beyond the Sea"; not sure if that was the case in real life.)
