Which is the excuse for M saddling Bond with the Walther PPK. But apparently the CIA changed its mind since, by You Only Live Twice, Bond appears to be the only secret agent in the world using the Walther.

Yes, the PPK can be horribly prone to jamming - especially with certain types of ammunition. Even though the US version was somewhat altered (feed ramp redesign) it still remains an issue. For some reason, Bond has a PP rather than the PPK in a lot of the shots and seems to be using a pistol without an external hammer when he shoots the Professor.
