(SPOILERS)
When Sinatra is trying to break Harvey from his brainwashing with the loaded deck, Sinatra is out of focus. The editing cuts back and forth, but Sinatra is still out of focus.
There are often a number of camera setups, even in one scene. So, I am guessing that the out of focus Sinatra is from one take on one camera.
Regardless, does anyone think this might have been intentional? Trying to convey something about Sinatra, or about how Harvey saw Sinatra?
Or, could it have been that, while defective in its focus, this is all the editor had to work with, and went with it in the film?
Thanks for your input!

According to director John Frankenheimer's DVD commentary, that was Sinatra's best take. They tried to re-shoot it many times, but it never worked as well. So, he went with the out of focus shot. In the end, people praised him for the "POV" of the bewildered Laurence Harvey as Raymond Shaw.
