Summer Magic(1963) is a good Disney movie, but it feels underwhelming. It also has a ponderous brand of early 1960's optimism. By the late 1960's, people were unhappy and depressed. The left and right wing in the U.S.A. had become polarized. The film was also made before the "Women's Liberation" of the 1970's. The presence of Hayley Mills and Deborah Walley gives star power to the film. We have Gidget and Pollyanna in the same film.
